The 63,000 square foot, seven million dollar facility consists of a 1,200 seat sanctuary addition with exterior canopies and porte cochere. Difficult foundation considerations included nearly 12,000 cubic yards of unsuitable soil undercut and 400 cubic yards of rock excavation. The structure contains 770 tons of steel, 1,600 cubic yards of concrete, 115,000 bricks and a very intricate pitched and sloped concrete sanctuary floor. Special architectural features include a raised pulpit, choir loft and baptistery areas, plus cathedral type ceilings. Professional sound reinforcement systems, audiovisual equipment and electrically operated projection screen/backdrop systems result in one of the most dynamic and moving church services in East Tennessee.
